A286 Stud Bolts, Specifications & Dimensions

A286 stud bolts are double-end threaded rods used in flanged-joint pressure-vessel and piping assemblies. TorqBolt manufactures A286 stud bolts per ASTM A193 (alloy steel) / ASTM A453 (high-temperature) / EN 10269, in diameters from 1/4" to 4" and lengths from 25 mm to 3 m.

End Configurations

Thread & Length

A286 stud bolt threads per ASME B1.1 (UNC for <1", 8UN for ≥1.125", per ASME B16.5 §A); ISO metric on request. Length under nut measured per ASME B16.5 Annex A. Standard end-chamfer 45° for thread protection in handling.

Mechanical & Certification

A286 stud bolts ship with matching ASTM A194 nuts (2H, 7, 7M, 16 grades) per the parent stud spec. Each lot includes EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 certificates with chemistry, mechanicals, hardness, and through-hardness traverse testing per ASTM A370. NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 sour-service certification standard. Pre-stretched / pre-loaded studs supplied per customer specification.

A286, Iron-Nickel-Chromium Superalloy

A-286 (UNS S66286, AISI 660) is an iron-nickel-chromium age-hardenable superalloy positioned between austenitic stainless and Inconel for high-temperature bolting at 700-1300°F (370-700°C). 26% Ni + 15% Cr + 1.25% Mo with Ti-Al precipitation hardening.

A-286 is the standard for steam-turbine bolting, gas-turbine combustor cases, jet-engine shafts, and superheater bolting. Two-step heat treatment: solution at 980°C (water quench) + ageing at 720°C for 16 hours yields tensile ~895 MPa, yield ~585 MPa, elongation >15%.

A-286 fasteners ship per ASTM A453 grade 660 (classes A/B/C/D) and AMS 5731 / 5732 / 5734 / 5737 with EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 certification and stress-rupture testing. NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 sour-service compliance achievable in specific heat-treat conditions.
